Ly Sander was highly inspired by the roots of Dance music and most specifically the Loft’s founder David Mancuso’s philosophy of building a travel through music. If this was key to his practice as a DJ, Ly Sander had at heart of including this experience with his album. Another key influence to him is leftfield dance music artist Arthur Russell, probably one of the only musicians to use Cello in dance music.

Unsurprisingly, there is a bit of both in Ly Sander’s first album ‘Landing’. Tracks flow from one to the next in a seemless manner although they can be of different types. Some retain the use of a double bass, played by founder of the Orchestre Tout Puissant Marcel Duchamp’s own Vincent Bertholet. Among them ‘Windy Plains’, ‘Transcontinental Hippies’ or ‘Our Spirit Runs Deep’. They take you on a journey reminiscent of a bygone era, evoking the free-spirited essence of hippies lost in a trance-like state. Their tribal feel resonates with a timeless energy captivating the senses in such a way that it can hardly leave you untouched. ‘Our Spirit Runs Deep‘ is Ly Sander’s first vocal effort if you leave aside the monkey screams he one day laid on underground hit by him and Crowdpleaser “Bad Monkey” that made raves back in 2006!

Other tracks comprise various influences and collaborations. Amongst them, some carry a heavy burden as they are some of the last testimonies of much too early gone soul: singer, bass and guitar player Matt Bessa. He sadly passed since this collaboration took place. He appears with vocals on the tracks ‘For Your Love’ and ‘Under The Moonlight’. The whole selection lands smoothly with the so poetic and perfectly fit vocals by Berlin based Jules Etienne on the track ‘Lay Down’ before the above mentioned ‘For Your Love’ takes you to a last round of dancing.

It felt important to Ly Sander to take as many people on board of this long term project. This explains why many remixers have worked on his material: Ripperton, Love Over Entropy, MAN2.0, Iori Wakasa, Gregorythme, Onur Ozman and Jacques Bon have all contributed with interpretations of Ly Sander’s tracks. Their efforts will be reunited on a compilation to be released beginning 2024.
